Upon wakening, your body as an elevation of a hormone called, “cortisol.”

Cortisol is commonly know as the “stress hormone” and fluctuates throughout the day.

An elevation of cortisol can happen for various reasons such as:

  1. High stress,
  2. After resistance training
  3. And upon wakening like mentioned previously.

What is detrimental to losing fat is another powerful hormone called, “insulin.”

Insulin is released through the pancreas anytime you consume food, especially foods high in carbohydrates.

The combination of high cortisol and spiking insulin early in the morning will dramatically hinder you losing fat.

There are three ways to counteract this problem:

  1. Wait to eat your first meal (Intermittent Fasting)
  2. Eat a breakfast high in fat combined with moderate protein.
  3. Wait to eat your carbs after resistance training between the sours of 2- 7 p.m.

Suggestions of a good breakfast would be foods like eggs, bacon, sausage, nuts, avocado, red meat, coconut oils, etc.

I recently wrote an article where as you age, cardio can have ill reverse effects on your quest to losing fat.

Most people that desire to lose excess belly fat often times think that performing long cardio sessions yields better results.

The fact is, long and steady cardio results in an increase of unwanted stress hormones called, “cortisiol.”  An elevation in cortisol levels leads to weight gain and belly fat.

What’s more interesting from the scientific studies  is that excess cardio becomes very taxing on the body which leads to muscle breaking down and increases the production of free radicals.

Free radicals are bad little molecules that damage cells in your body and cause chronic inflammation that accelerates aging and lead to serious diseases.

Eating clean is definitely one of the top methods to losing fat pretty fast but you can only eat clean for so long.

Over a period of clean eating, your leptin levels will fall and result in a sudden halt to losing fat because the body thinks it’s starving.

Leptin is a hormone that is produced by the fat cells in the body. Its main role is regulating how many calories we eat and burn, as well as how much fat we carry on our bodies.

When people lose fat, leptin levels decrease significantly. The brain interprets this as a starvation signal, changing our biology and behavior to make us regain the lost fat.

How do we counteract this problem?

Have a cheat meal once a week!

If and only if you’ve been eating clean for a while then it’s o.k. to have a cheat meal and doing so will reset leptin levels.
